HOT TEMPS TODAY AND FRIDAY; POP-UP STORMS THIS WEEKEND AND INTO NEXT WEEK… High temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s today across south Alabama and northwest Florida with heat index values set to be in the upper 90s and low 100s this afternoon. Today will make a run at being the hottest day of the year so far in many communities. There won’t be much rain at all to cool temperatures, most likely. Only a handful of small, spotty showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into this evening. The greatest chances of rain will happen near and east of I-65 in parts of south-central Alabama.
SLIGHTLY HIGHER RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND… Rain chances will increase on Saturday into Sunday when more in the way of pop-up thunderstorms happen, mostly in the afternoon and evening hours each day. It certainly won’t rain all day in any given location, but please have an indoor backup ready as spotty showers and storms will likely develop. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s this weekend.
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY NEXT WEEK… An abundance of Gulf moisture moving into the area next week will pave the way for scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms by the middle part of the upcoming week. Deep, tropical moisture will allow for numerous pop-up storms to develop, mostly (although not exclusively) in the afternoon and evening hours, each day. See the 7 Day Forecast in the video for more details.
TROPICS: 10% CHANCE OF TROPICAL STORM FORMATION IN SOUTHERN GULF… The National Hurricane Center indicates a broad area of low pressure may form in the Bay of Campeche region of the southwestern Gulf over the next few days. This system, IF it develops into a named tropical storm, would likely move northwest toward mainland Mexico. This system is not expected to bring direct, significant impacts to Alabama or northwest Florida.
TROPICS: CARIBBEAN & ATLANTIC QUIET, FOR NOW… The Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean are expected to remain quiet over the next few days with no tropical storms in the forecast.
TROPICS: TROPICAL STORM CRISTINA IN EASTERN PACIFIC… Tropical Storm Cristina will continue to weaken over the next day or so over the high terrain of Central America. The remnants of Cristina could potentially contribute to the development of the aforementioned broad area of low pressure in the Bay of Campeche in a few days.
