STRONG STORMS MOVING *FROM* EAST TO WEST POSSIBLE THIS EVENING… Isolated severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts will be possible across south Alabama and northwest Florida this evening. This will be a highly unique setup where storms move FROM east TO west, which is reversed from our “normal” pattern. The reason for this is because our area is at the base of a large ridge of high pressure that will force all rain and storms to the west tomorrow. I am not particularly concerned about a tornado threat today, but I am concerned a few storms may produce gusty winds. A low-end risk of flash flooding will also happen, particularly in areas closer to the coast IF storms train over the same areas. Hot temperatures will persist today with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s. Heat index values will be in the 103-108° range this afternoon.

STORM TIMING – THIS EVENING… 2PM to 10PM is the main eight hour window for strong to severe thunderstorms later today. Storms will start in the EAST and move west throughout the evening, a reversal from our “normal” pattern. Damaging wind gusts capable of knocking down a few trees will be the main concern. The overall risk of severe storms remains LOW, but not entirely zero. The tornado risk, however, remains VERY low. Cloud-to-ground lightning and loud thunder will be likely in all of the storms.

POP-UP STORMS POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY… Spotty thunderstorms will continue to be possible on Wednesday and Thursday, however, rain chances will be lower than what happens today. Hot temperatures are here to stay as well with most spots expected to top out in the low to mid 90s. Morning lows will be in the mid 70s.

HEAT AND HUMIDITY PERSIST INTO THE 4TH OF JULY… Independence Day on Saturday will be hot and humid with a chance of rain and storms in the afternoon and evening hours. That is pretty much exactly what you would expect, climatologically speaking, for early July. High temperatures on Saturday will be in the low to mid 90s.

TROPICAL UPDATE… Other than an area of disturbed weather located a few hundred miles southeast of the North Carolina coast in the Atlantic Ocean, the Atlantic Basin is quiet. There is a 10% chance this system develops into a named tropical storm over the next day or so before conditions become less favorable for development. The climatological peak of hurricane season happens in mid-September. The 2026 hurricane season will end on November 30.
