This RedZone Weather Privacy Policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how their ‘Personally Identifiable Information’ (PII) is being used online and in the RedZone Weather app. PII, as described in U.S. privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read our privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect or otherwise handle your Personally Identifiable Information in accordance with our website and our RedZone Weather app, available for iOS and Android devices.
What personal information do we collect from the people that visit the RedZone Weather website/app?
Beginning in February 2018, RedZone Weather website/app users can optionally share weather photos directly to our chief meteorologist via the “Share” page in the RedZone Weather app and on the RedZone Weather website. This is a completely optional service. To ensure that you receive proper credit for your photo, please correctly fill in the “Name” field. By entering data in the “Name,” “Location,” and “Description” fields on the “Share” page, you acknowledge that you may be submitting personally identifiable information (PII) to the chief meteorologist (your name, location, and description) to publicly identify you. These entry forms are also used to give you “photo credit.” Users are also given the option to submit their current location data from their device to pinpoint exactly where a photo may have been taken. This data is useful for context purposes during severe weather events that may help the staff of RedZone Weather identify where a photo was potentially taken.
When do we collect information?
We may collect information from you when you respond to a survey, fill out a form, or enter information on our app/website. We also may collect information from you when you provide us with feedback on our products or services. Perhaps most importantly, we do collect location data, when a user allows it, when weather photos are taken and submitted via the “Share” page. This gathered location data can also be viewed by the chief meteorologist as aggregated, anonymous location data. This data is not personally identifiable.
How do we use your information?
We may use the information we collect from you when you register on our app/website (specifically in the context of RZW Exec), respond to a survey or marketing communication, surf the website/app, or use certain other site features in the following ways:
• To personalize your experience and to allow us to deliver the type of content and product offerings in which you are most interested. We do use cookies to do this.
• To improve our website/app in order to better serve you.
• To allow us to better service you in responding to your customer service requests.
• To administer a contest, promotion, survey, or other site feature.
How do we protect your information?
The RedZone Weather app/website utilizes a SSL certificate. We also utilize PayPal and/or Stripe to complete all transactions/purchases. We do not keep (or have access to) your credit/debit card number when you make a purchase on the RedZone Weather app/website. This is handled by PayPal/Stripe.
Do we use ‘cookies’?
Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s or mobile device’s storage unit through your web browser (if you allow) that enables the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. For instance, cookies are used to help us understand your preferences based on previous or current site activity, which enables us to provide you with improved services. We also use cookies to help us compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction so that we can offer better site experiences and tools in the future.

However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

California Online Privacy Protection Act
CalOPPA is the first state law in the nation to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. The law’s reach stretches well beyond California to require any person or company in the United States (and conceivably the world) that operates websites collecting Personally Identifiable Information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected and those individuals or companies with whom it is being shared. How does our website/app handle Do Not Track signals?
We have full intentions of honoring Do Not Track signals and do not track or plant cookies when a Do Not Track (DNT) browser mechanism is in place.
COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)
When it comes to the collection of personal information from children under the age of 13 years old, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control. The Federal Trade Commission, United States’ consumer protection agency, enforces the COPPA Rule, which spells out what operators of websites and online services must do to protect children’s privacy and safety online.
We do not specifically market products to children under the age of 13 years old via our website/app.
