Let me start by saying NO severe weather is expected across the southern half of Alabama or northwest Florida. All of the below mentioned severe weather issues are in the northern half of Alabama. I know we have a lot of folks who have interest for north Alabama communities…
TORNADO WATCH FOR NORTH ALABAMA… The Storm Prediction Center is monitoring developing supercell thunderstorms over the northwestern part of Alabama. A Tornado Watch has been issued for the following counties in north Alabama: Walker, Fayette, Lamar, Blount, Cullman, Winston, Marion, Marshall, Morgan, Lawrence, Franklin, Colbert, Lauderdale, Limestone, and Madison. This Tornado Watch is in effect until 10PM CDT. A few tornadoes are possible as this line of supercell thunderstorms moves east. We’ve already had one tornado warning for portions of Colbert, Franklin, and Lawrence counties. More could happen over the next 4-5 hours.
Again, no issues for areas along and south of U.S. Highway 80, meaning south Alabama and northwest Florida should be fine and dry through the evening and into Sunday morning. If you live in north Alabama, we encourage you to check out local media outlets there to keep up with the storms. WHNT/Jason Simpson is a good source for the Huntsville TV market and Richard Scott/WVUA-TV is who I work with in the Birmingham TV market.
I’ll have updates throughout the evening as necessary.
