HEAT INDEX: 105-110°; HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT… It’s hot & humid, even by south Alabama and northwest Florida standards, today with heat index values in excess of 100° in spots already. The air temperature will end up near 95° this afternoon but combined with dewpoint values near 80°, heat index values will approach 110° in spots today! Limit outside time and if you have to be outside, be sure to stay hydrated.
There could be a few pop-up storms around this afternoon, but most of us will be dry and hot.
NOTE ABOUT HEAT ADVISORIES… I really don’t like giving “heat alerts” since we’re so accustomed to heat and humidity around here, but if we can prevent one person from having a heat-related illness (like heat exhaustion or heat stroke), it’s worth it. Pass the word along to folks that may be outside playing golf or working in the woods today. Big time heat!
MORE HOT DAYS AHEAD… Temperatures will remain above seasonal averages through Wednesday. High temperatures will be around 95° with morning lows around 74°. I wouldn’t be shocked to see NWS Mobile issue another Heat Advisory for Monday, when heat index values will again surpass 105° across our region.
ISOLATED STORMS THIS WEEK… Showers and thunderstorms will again pop up in the heat of the day, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours over the next few days. Most of us will be dry, but you know the drill: Where storms fire up, there will be heavy downpours of rain, lots of lightning, and gusty winds.
TROPICS QUIET… The north Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico remain quiet. The National Hurricane Center is not expecting tropical development over the next 4-5 days.
HIGH LEVEL ALERT TEST THURSDAY… We’re giving away one $50 Visa gift card to one lucky winner as part of our High Level Alert Test Giveaway this Thursday. We will be testing the High Level Alert feature of the RedZone Weather app. The link to see more about how you can enter to win is here.
