BIRMINGHAM METRO ADDED TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH… The National Weather Service has expanded the severe thunderstorm watch to now also include all of Jefferson, Shelby, and Walker counties in central Alabama. A line of powerful thunderstorms is moving southwest in the northern part of the state as of 1:30PM. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings are in place for much of Blount, Etowah, Cullman, and Cherokee counties ahead of the line of storms. There have been MANY reports of trees being blown down in north Alabama.
Nothing on radar at the moment across south Alabama and northwest Florida. I’ll have a detailed forecast update shortly, as this system appears to be evolving into a MCS (mesoscale convective system) that could move across our area later this evening.
