POP-UP STORMS TODAY; TROPICS UPDATE… Stormy skies are expected across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Saturday. We’ll call it a 70% chance of showers and storms for any given spot across our region. Widespread severe weather won’t happen, but thunderstorms will produce very heavy rain, cloud-to-ground lightning, and isolated instances of flash flooding. High temperatures will be around 89.
BEACH & GOLF FORECAST TODAY… There is a moderate risk of rip currents at local beaches today. It won’t be an all day washout at any beach locale, but there will be thunderstorms around at times. The same applies for golfers, kayakers, and other outdoor folks today: You’ll want to have a way to check the radar throughout the day as there will be numerous storms around.
TROPICAL WAVE WEAKER… The tropical wave we’ve been tracking over the last few days that is approaching Barbados and the Lesser Antilles has entered an environment that is hostile for intensification. This tropical wave will likely be completely ripped apart by atmospheric shear over the next few days. Tropical Storm Ernesto has transitioned into a post-tropical system that will bring rain to Ireland and the UK tonight. This means the Atlantic basin is again QUIET! Good news!
MORE STORMS THIS WEEK… Rain chances will remain elevated through Tuesday as a moist, humid airmass remains in place across our region. Rain chances should subside somewhat by the end of the upcoming week.
I’ll have radar updates throughout the day here in the RedZone Weather app. Have a wonderful Saturday!
