COOL, SUNNY WEDNESDAY; WET SATURDAY AHEAD… High pressure will keep our weather pattern cool, dry, and stable through Friday morning. High temperatures on this Wednesday will peak only in the low-50s for most spots. Our “next weathermaker” will move through on Saturday, bringing heavy rain and potentially a few strong to severe storms depending on the exact track of an area of low pressure. Let’s talk details…
SUNNY TODAY & ON THURSDAY… Clear skies are expected today, tonight, and Thursday across the region. High temperatures today and on Thursday will be in the low- to mid-50s as a northwesterly flow keeps us below our climatological temperature norms for this time of year. Tonight will be the coldest night of the season yet. Most spots will drop into the upper-20s! Keep in mind that freeze warnings are only issued for the FIRST freeze of the year, which we had a few weeks ago. Temperatures will moderate somewhat on Friday ahead of the rain on Saturday.
MAINLY DRY ON FRIDAY EVENING… While it’s possible that west Alabama may have a shower or two in place as early as Friday evening, most of the rain will hold off until after 11PM on Friday night. Several Christmas parades and other evening events are happening on Friday. Temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s on Friday evening with vast majority of our area being dry.
RAIN & THUNDERSTORMS ON SATURDAY… An area of surface low pressure with an accompanying cold front will move by on Saturday into Sunday. There is a chance that most spots could see heavy periods of rain on Saturday. Depending on the track of the low pressure, there is a chance that some locales (especially closer to the coast) could have strong to potentially severe thunderstorms moving by on Saturday. It’s too early to know specifics, but this is definitely something we will need to watch over the next few days. Secondary severe weather season continues this month, so this is not unusual.
