COOL CHRISTMAS EVE; NICE CHRISTMAS DAY AHEAD… Partly cloudy skies are in store for south Alabama and northwest Florida today and tomorrow. No significant weather issues are expected. Temperatures will peak around the 60 degree mark this afternoon. You will need at least a light jacket this evening if you’re headed out to a Christmas Eve service across the region as temperatures will likely be in the 50s. We’re looking ahead to Thursday into Friday when a big rain event could happen across our region. Let’s talk details…

COLD OVERNIGHT/CHRISTMAS MORNING… Temperatures will be chilly this evening (40s and 50s) before dropping into the upper-30s by Tuesday morning. If you’re outside around 6AM on Christmas Day, you can expect temperatures around 38.

CHRISTMAS DAY OUTLOOK… About a week ago, most model guidance suggested Christmas Day would be above average in terms of temperatures. While we will likely have temperatures in the 60s in the afternoon hours, that isn’t terribly too far from our seasonal average (near 58 degrees). Partly cloudy skies are likely throughout the day for Christmas.

BIG RAIN EVENT BY END OF WEEK… An area of low pressure will approach our area from the west on Thursday. There could be a few isolated rain showers as early as Wednesday evening, but I expect most of the rain to happen Thursday into Friday. Upwards of 3-4″ of rain will be possible. It seems like heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding will be the main weather issue, as severe weather (tornado/wind) parameters remain low as of now. We’ll keep watching over the next few days and bring you the latest in the RedZone Weather app.
