STRONG STORMS APPROACHING WEST ALABAMA… Multiple thunderstorms continue to push eastward across southeast Mississippi toward the AL/MS state line as of the Noon hour. We’re watching thunderstorms that are producing prolific lightning and heavy rain approaching Choctaw and Washington counties in west Alabama. These storms are currently located along the Interstate 59 corridor near Hattiesburg and Laurel.
SHOWERS ACROSS LOCAL AREA… Small, scattered showers and thunderstorms have also popped up across our region. Heavy pockets of rain are happening near Stockton and Tensaw in northern Baldwin County. Showers are also happening near Jay, Century, Pollard, Citronelle, Monroeville, and Perdue Hill. These showers will produce brief heavy downpours before drifting northeast. I expect these small showers to increase in coverage over the next few hours.
SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER CONTINUES… Local areas along and WEST of the Alabama River continue to be included in a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) marginal severe weather risk over the next few hours. Strong winds at 5,000-10,000 feet in the atmosphere will continue to provide enough shear for storms to potentially become severe over the next few hours across Mobile, Clarke, Washington, Choctaw, Marengo, and Wilcox counties in west Alabama. These strong wind values will move northeast after 4PM, meaning the severe weather risk should lessen quite a bit this evening.
