LARGE HAIL HAPPENING IN CENTRAL ALABAMA; SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH TILL 9PM… We’re tracking several storms across central Alabama that are producing large (1-2″), potentially damaging hail. As of 5PM, there are multiple storms producing large hail near Demopolis, Forkland, Greensboro, Maplesville, Clanton, Sylacauga, and Ashland. These storms will move southeast quickly over the next few hours. There is some concern that we could have a few strong storms across the northern stretches of our local area, which is why we now have a severe thunderstorm watch in effect.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH DETAILS… Much of central and south Alabama is now included in the severe thunderstorm watch that is in effect until 9PM. For our local area, all parts of Clarke, Monroe, Conecuh, and Butler counties are included in the watch. This means if you’re in Thomasville, Grove Hill, Jackson, Coffeeville, Whatley, Beatrice, Monroeville, Uriah, Excel, Frisco City, Evergreen, Repton, Lenox, Castleberry, Lyeffion, Greenville, Georgiana, McKenzie, Chapman, or Forest Home, you are under this new severe thunderstorm watch. Be ready for possible warnings later this evening. Large hail is the main concern.

WHAT TO EXPECT – NEXT FEW HOURS… Most of us will be dry across south Alabama and northwest Florida through 7PM. Storms will approach from the north after 7PM, meaning scattered downpours of heavy rain could happen. The severe weather risk will gradually subside after 9PM.

I’ll continue to bring you the latest over the next few hours here in the RedZone Weather app.
