ISOLATED STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE THURSDAY… Wednesday is slated to be nice, sunny, and dry before a much wetter Thursday that could feature a few strong to potentially severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center has included nearly all of our local area in their Level 1 (out of 5) marginal severe weather risk zone, meaning isolated severe storms could happen. I’ll have your full forecast in the Wednesday morning video that will be posted by 7:15AM, but let’s look at a few initial details…
LEVEL 1 RISK: WHO IS INVOLVED… ALL parts of southwest Alabama and northwest Florida have a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) marginal severe weather risk on Thursday, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. Mobile, Pensacola, Daphne, Fairhope, Destin, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Brewton, Flomaton, Atmore, Poarch, Monroeville, Beatrice, Uriah, Grove Hill, Thomasville, Jackson, Leroy, Chatom, Greenville, Georgiana, Andalusia, Opp, and Florala are all included.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS… Damaging straight line winds, hail, and a few tornadoes will be the main concerns on Thursday. The severe weather risk will clearly be greatest across much of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas, where the Level 2, slightly higher risk zone is in place. There is a chance that some of area may be upped into the Level 2 risk over the next 24-36 hours. Be sure to check back with me Wednesday into Thursday morning for the latest.
HIGH-LEVEL ALERT TEST ON WEDNESDAY… We will have a High-Level Alert Test tomorrow, April 3, 2019 at 1PM CDT in the RedZone Weather app. The forecast for Wednesday is dry and nice, so we won’t have to reschedule this because of severe weather. You should receive a push notification at 1PM Wednesday if you have the RedZone Weather app installed on your iOS or Android device AND you have allowed the app to send push notifications. This test will be done on a quarterly basis going forward. After the test on Wednesday, April 3, the next one is scheduled for Wednesday, July 3.
My next forecast video will be posted by 7:15AM tomorrow morning. See you then!
