STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE THURSDAY; LEVEL 1 RISK IN PLACE… Today (Wednesday) will be quite nice with highs in the mid-70s but our focus has shifted to Thursday when we could have a few strong to severe thunderstorms in addition to heavy rain at times throughout the day. Much of our area is included in the low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) marginal severe weather risk zone. This means that isolated strong to severe storms will be possible. The main threats will be gusty winds, hail, and perhaps a tornado or two. We’re entering into a very unsettled weather pattern in the days ahead that will be warm and wet with storms possible at times. Let’s look at details…
HIGH LEVEL ALERT TEST THIS AFTERNOON… We will have a High-Level Alert Test TODAY (April 3, 2019) at 1PM CDT in the RedZone Weather app. You should receive a push notification at 1PM today if you have the RedZone Weather app installed on your iOS or Android device AND you have allowed the app to send push notifications. This test will be done on a quarterly basis going forward. After the test on Wednesday, April 3, the next one is scheduled for Wednesday, July 3. redzoneweather.com/app is the link where you can download the free RedZone Weather app.
GORGEOUS WEDNESDAY; WARMER TODAY… If we didn’t have weather models and forecasting, you wouldn’t know that we’ve got issues on the way tomorrow by observing today’s weather. It’s going to be “picture perfect.” High temperatures will be in the 74-77° range in most spots across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Plenty of sunshine is likely this morning before a few passing clouds happen later today.
LEVEL 1 RISK FOR THURSDAY… The Storm Prediction Center has outlined nearly all of our area in their Level 1 (out of 5) marginal severe weather risk zone valid for Thursday. We note that the Level 2 slight risk is in place for the far western parts of Alabama, including areas near Millry, Silas, Toxey, Butler, Pennington, Needham, Livingston, York, and Geiger. ALL of the remainder of our local area, extending from the Red Hills of Monroe County back down to the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches are included in the Level 1 risk zone.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS THURSDAY… Heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding will likely be the number one concern for most folks across our region. There could be a few instances of severe storms that could produce gusty winds and hail. The tornado risk will be LOW, but not zero. This means a tornado or two will be possible on Thursday in the stronger storms. Our normal tornado warning policy will apply (as always). You can read what that means and who it covers here: redzoneweather.com/coverage.
UNSETTLED WEEKEND AHEAD… Showers and thunderstorms will be possible Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with the greatest coverage of rain/storms happening on Friday out of those 3 days. High temperatures will rise into the mid-80s across our region. It’s going to be quite a warm pattern featuring some of the warmest temperatures we’ve had in 2019 so far.
See all the details, including a graphical look at the next 7 days, in your Wednesday #rzw forecast video… Enjoy your day! High-Level Alert Test at 1PM!
