Here are a few evening forecast notes before you go to sleep…

FEW SHOWERS OVERNIGHT… There are some lingering showers around this evening. At the moment, heavy downpours of rain are happening near Foley, Magnolia Springs, Navarre, Pleasant Home, and Onycha. That will be the trend over the next several hours: Small showers and storms that *probably* will be well below severe limits.

SLIGHTLY HIGHER TORNADO RISK TO OUR EAST… We note the Storm Prediction Center has upgraded much of southeast Alabama and the Florida Panhandle region into their Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk in the evening update due to a slightly elevated tornado risk over the next few hours. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the storms that develop in Covington and Okaloosa counties and points to the east. Folks in/near Dothan, Enterprise, and Geneva should keep an eye on radar trends over the next few hours.

The overall tornado and severe weather risk remains very low for south Alabama and northwest Florida.

RAIN LINGERS INTO TUESDAY… There will probably be a few rain showers in progress around dawn that move eastward. Rain should clear out of our local area by 3PM in most spots. One more round of showers on Tuesday, then we get a break on Wednesday and during the daytime hours of Thursday.

SEVERE WEATHER RISK THIS WEEKEND… Most of the major weather models point to a potentially potent round of severe weather across much of the Deep South Saturday into Sunday. It’s too early to know any type of specific information, but now is the time for all of us to be aware that we could have strong to severe storms around on Sunday. This is nothing unusual – it’s April in Alabama, our primary tornado month. I’ll keep you posted every step of the way.

APP… Those of you who were awakened by loud thunder and heavy rain last night hopefully checked in to the RedZone Weather app. I had updates all night long. It’s a great resource for you to have, especially during active weather. redzoneweather.com/app is the link where you can download the app. Once you have the app downloaded, be sure to set up your customized alerts in the Alerts tab.

My next forecast video will be posted by 7:15AM. See you then!
