SUNNY WEEKEND (FORECAST BELOW)…
REMEMBERING APRIL 27, 2011… April 27 is forever associated with the Super Outbreak of violent tornadoes that affected Alabama and the Deep South in 2011. The number 252 is forever seared in my mind as that is how many Alabamians perished in tornadoes on that day with 2,000+ others directly injured by tornadoes. Damage was extensive and catastrophic in several cities and places across the state. There are still (8 years later) noticeable scars in some central/north Alabama forests from where these tornadoes happened. The 4/27/2011 event was a generational outbreak of tornadoes that only happens once or twice in a lifetime. Today, we pause and remember the families and friends of the tornado victims from that devastating, horrendous event – 8 years ago today.
SUNNY, NEAR PERFECT SATURDAY… Full sunshine is likely all day on this Saturday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Temperatures will peak around the 80 degree mark at about 3PM. Special thanks to Wes Brown for this photo from near Lyeffion in Conecuh County, AL.
CALM PATTERN THROUGH WEDNESDAY… No weather issues are expected through Wednesday, other than patchy areas of dense fog in the early morning hours. High temperatures will be in the 80s over the next few days with morning lows in the 50s/60s.
NEXT RAIN CHANCE: THURSDAY… Yep, you guessed it! We’ve upped rain chances for Thursday (this is the 5th consecutive Thursday that rain has been expected!) to 30%. It’s too early to know whether severe weather issues will be possible but that will be something we will assess over the next few days. Stay tuned and be sure to check back with me for updates.
Have a great Saturday!
