SCATTERED STORMS AROUND TODAY; DRIER CONDITIONS LATER THIS WEEK… Scattered showers and thunderstorms are happening on this Sunday afternoon across south Alabama and northwest Florida. At the moment, heavier showers are happening near Gantt, Loango, Crestview, and Navarre. Where it’s not raining, it’s absolutely sultry outside! Dewpoint values are well into the 70s as a very moist airmass remains in place. Over the next few hours, we’ll have more showers and storms pop up and fade away, especially for areas along and EAST of the Alabama River. There is a frontal boundary in place near the Alabama River keeping drier air in place across much of west Alabama this afternoon. High temperatures across the region will peak in the mid- to upper-80s.
MORE POP-UP STORMS MONDAY BEFORE DRIER WEATHER ON TUESDAY… An area of low pressure that has been partially responsible for kicking up all of the scattered storms over the last several days will have its last bit of influence across our area on Monday. Isolated storms will be possible, especially in areas east of Interstate 65. This means if you’re in Andalusia, Opp, Florala, Luverne, Greenville, Evergreen, Brewton, Milton, Crestview, Destin, or Fort Walton Beach, you have a slightly higher rain chances compared to communities in west Alabama. High temperatures will rise into the upper-80s.
COOLER MORNINGS AHEAD… Overnight lows on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning will be in the mid-60s as slightly drier, cooler air takes hold of our weather pattern. If you’re awake around 6AM, be sure to step outside and enjoy it as this is probably the last round of slightly cooler air that will move in until after the peak of the summer season.
FEW SHOWERS & STORMS WEDNESDAY… Isolated showers and thunderstorms could happen Wednesday afternoon. I expect most locales to remain dry, but we could have a few storms bubble up in the heat of the day. High temps on Wednesday will be around the 90 degree mark.
NICE, WARM THURSDAY & FRIDAY… Calm, dry weather is expected on Thursday and on Friday as high pressure takes control of our local area’s primary weather influence. High temperatures will be around 90° with morning lows in the 60s.
MORE POP-UP STORMS FOR UPCOMING WEEKEND… Early indications point to a seasonal weekend with isolated thunderstorms around in the afternoon and evening hours. It’s too early for specifics, but just know we will probably have a few storms around. Probably won’t be “all day washout” days, however.
TROPICS ARE QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and tropical Atlantic remain quiet. The National Hurricane Center continues to suggest in their graphical tropical weather outlook product that tropical storm formation is not expected over the next 5-7 days. Good news! The climatological peak of the Atlantic hurricane season happens around September 11.
