NICE THURSDAY ON TAP; WATCHING TROPICAL LOW TO OUR SOUTH… It feels SO nice outside as we kick off this Thursday. Temperatures are starting in the upper-60s in most spots and we’re headed to a high temperature near 90°. It won’t feel oppressively hot or humid today, however, as dewpoint values remain in the 50s and 60s across the region. We continue to monitor the area of low pressure developing to our south over the north-central Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center indicates this area of disturbed weather has a very low-end (10%) chance of becoming a tropical storm over the next 3 days. Let’s look at details…
NICE TODAY; RAIN RETURNS THIS WEEKEND… No rain is expected today other perhaps a shower or two near the immediate beach zones, but even that is probably a stretch at this point. High temperatures peak around 90° this afternoon. Rain chances will rise somewhat on Friday, especially closer to the coast, as the stalled frontal boundary lifts northward into our area. Seabreeze-induced thunderstorms will become a bit more numerous on Saturday into Sunday as our area will again be in the warm sector. Humidity levels will also rise as we go into the weekend.
WATCHING THE TROPICAL DISTURBANCE TO OUR SOUTH… The National Hurricane Center (NHC) continues to monitor the area of developing low pressure across the northern Gulf of Mexico. NHC indicates the system has a 10% chance of developing into a classified tropical depression or tropical storm over the next 48-72 hours. The low pressure area will probably develop south of Louisiana and move either east or northeast toward northwest Florida. It remains to be seen whether the system can strengthen into a tropical depression or tropical storm, although that appears increasingly unlikely at this moment.
P.M. STORMS TO RETURN NEXT WEEK… Regardless of formal development of the tropical system to our south, I expect an increase in the amount of showers and thunderstorms around in the afternoon and evening hours of the upcoming week.
