HOT, SULTRY WEEKEND WITH P.M. POP-UP STORMS… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will again be the headline feature of our weather pattern today, tomorrow (Saturday), and Sunday. While air temperatures will peak in the mid-90s, there is a high chance that heat index values will reach the mid-100s in the afternoon and evening hours over the next several days. The good news is the tropics remain quiet. Let’s talk details on this Friday…
P.M. STORMS TODAY, SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY… The local sea breeze off the northern Gulf of Mexico will aid in the development of pulse-type thunderstorms that rapidly develop across the area in the peak heat hours of the next few days. Most of the storms that happen will occur in the afternoon and evening hours. We note severe weather issues remain highly unlikely, but there could be some storms on the stronger side. This means that cloud-to-ground lightning, very heavy rain, and gusty winds will be the main concerns. You can keep tabs on the radar throughout the day at redzoneweather.com/radar to see where storms are at any given point.
HIGH HEAT INDEX PERSISTS INTO THE EVENING… The National Weather Service reported that the heat index was 101° at 9PM last evening and 100° at 10PM. This was because the air temperature was in the mid-80s with a dewpoint temperature around 81. Don’t be surprised this weekend if we have high heat index values persist well into the late evening hours, especially in locales closer to the coast where humidity levels are excessively high. HOT and humid this weekend!
TROPICS ARE QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and tropical Atlantic Ocean remain quiet with no tropical storm formation expected over the next 5 days.
