SUNNY, HOT WEEKEND… Summer has overstayed its welcome this year with a hot, humid weekend on tap for south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-90s today and on Sunday. There is a small chance some locales could briefly hit 100° Sunday afternoon. Rain chances remain near zero in most spots, although there is a small chance of a brief shower or storm across the eastern half of the area in the afternoon hours. Vast majority of us will remain dry.
NO COOLER WEATHER THIS WEEK… A large ridge of high pressure will keep us dry and quite hot over the next 7 days. Highs will be in the mid-90s with morning lows consistently around 70°. Rain chances will remain low. There are some global model indications that suggest we could have slightly cooler temperatures as we get into the October 6-13 timeframe but it’s too early to know with confidence whether this idea deserves merit. Confidence is high, however, that the upcoming 7 days will be hot and dry.
FINAL ADVISORY ISSUED ON KAREN… The National Hurricane Center has issued the final advisory on what was Tropical Depression Karen, located about halfway between Puerto Rico and Bermuda in the Atlantic Ocean. The remnant low pressure area that was Karen will probably completely dissipate in the next day or two.
LORENZO A BIT WEAKER OVER OPEN OCEAN… Hurricane Lorenzo is still a category 3, major hurricane as it moves north over the open waters of the central Atlantic Ocean. Lorenzo will continue to move north and ultimately northeast this week. No U.S. impacts are expected because of Lorenzo.
The rest of the Atlantic basin (including the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea) remains quiet.
Have a wonderful weekend!
