CLOUDY TODAY; RAIN & STORMS SATURDAY; MUCH COLDER NEXT WEEK… Cloudy skies will continue to be in place across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday. Temperatures will be a bit cooler than the last few days due to the passage of a weak cold front late yesterday. High temperatures will peak in the upper-60s. Another round of rain and storms is on the way for Saturday ahead of much colder air set to surge into our region on Sunday. The good news is widespread severe weather is NOT expected with this round of storms tomorrow. We’re also looking ahead to multiple nights of below freezing temperatures next week. INCREASING CLOUDINESS TODAY… Clouds will increase in coverage throughout the day from southwest to northeast. There could be a few peeks of sunshine today, but overall, the story will be increasing amounts of clouds ahead of our significant chance of rain setting up for Saturday. No rain issues are expected today. High temperatures will be a bit cooler compared to previous days with most spots peaking in the 65-68° range. Temperatures will fall into the 50s tonight.
SHOWERS & STORMS LIKELY ON SATURDAY… Our last round of rain and storms for awhile happens on Saturday. Rain chances will peak in the 10AM to 5PM timeframe. There could be a few thunderstorms involved in the numerous showers on Saturday. The greatest chance of thunder and lightning will happen closer to the coast where instability values will be a touch higher. While there is some atmospheric helicity (veering of the winds higher in the atmosphere) noted, instability looks almost nonexistent in many spots. This should limit or completely hinder the formation of any severe thunderstorms on Saturday. High temperatures on Saturday will be in the low-70s. This is the last of the 70s for awhile as much cooler air moves in on Sunday.
NO FORMAL SEVERE WEATHER RISK ZONE ON SATURDAY… The Storm Prediction Center maintains all of our local area in their General Thunderstorms zone valid for Saturday. This is the “risk level” below the low-end, Level 1 marginal risk. This means that severe storms are NOT expected on Saturday. Any strong storm Saturday would likely be super brief with the biggest concerns likely being lightning and heavy downpours of rain. Good news!
COLD FRONT LATE SATURDAY; MUCH COOLER SUNDAY… Significantly cooler air will move into our region behind the passing cold front late Saturday into early Sunday. High temperatures on Sunday will drop into the 50s as a cold, dry airmass sets up across the Deep South.
COOL DAYS AND COLD NIGHTS NEXT WEEK… We continue to observe model data that shows a very high probability of multiple nights below freezing for the upcoming week. Monday night into Tuesday morning AND Tuesday night into Wednesday morning look to be the coldest with temperatures dropping into the 20s each night. This will be the coldest temperatures our area has had since November.
