SHOWERS AT TIMES TODAY; FEW STORMS POSSIBLE THIS EVENING… Mostly cloudy skies will continue to be in place across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Tuesday. There could be a few showers around today, particularly across west Alabama. Rain chances will be a bit less farther to the east toward Destin, Andalusia, Opp, and Greenville. High temperatures across the region will be in the 74-77° range this afternoon as a warm, humid airmass sets up. We will have high temperatures near 80 degrees by the end of the week. Rain chances will probably be at their peak today, but we will need to maintain at least low-end rain chances through Friday. Our next real chance of storms will happen on Sunday. Let’s look at all of your forecast details.
LITTLE TO NO RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER ISSUES TODAY… There is no formal risk of strong to severe thunderstorms today across our local area. There could be a few general (non-severe) thunderstorms across the northwestern corner of our region in parts of Monroe, Clarke, Washington, Choctaw, Marengo, and Wilcox counties. The main concerns in the general storms would be cloud-to-ground lightning, heavy downpours of rain, and gusty (15-25 mph) winds.
FEW SHOWERS AROUND THIS EVENING… I expect vast majority of the local area to be dry this evening. There could be a few showers and maybe a thunderstorm or two in areas west of the Alabama River. Temperatures will decline into the mid-60s by 8PM.
LOW RAIN CHANCES WEDNESDAY… Rain chances will be in the 20-30% range on Wednesday across the area. I expect inland locales to have a slightly higher rain chance throughout the day. High temperatures will peak in the upper-70s!
MOSTLY CLOUDY THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY… Skies will remain mostly cloudy on Thursday into Friday as a warm, southerly flow off the northern Gulf of Mexico continues. High temperatures will make a run at 80 degrees each day with overnight lows near the 60 degree mark. While I can’t rule out a shower or two on Thursday and on Friday, overall rain chances will remain very low.
MAINLY SUNNY ON SATURDAY; WARMER… Sunshine is set to return in a more significant way on Saturday. This will allow temperatures to quickly surge into the low- or perhaps even mid-80s. This very well may be the warmest day we have had yet in the year 2020.
RAIN & STORMS POSSIBLE ON SUNDAY… Forecast guidance continues to suggest an increasing chance of rain and thunderstorms setting up for Sunday. There are some scenarios that would allow strong to severe storms, although it is too early to know for sure whether those scenarios will materialize. Some scenarios point to a rain event with little in the way of storms. We will keep you posted over the next few days in the RedZone Weather app.
