WARM WEDNESDAY; SHOWERS POSSIBLE ON FRIDAY… Our streak of nice, warm days is set to continue on this Wednesday. High temperatures this afternoon will be in the low- to mid-80s with temperatures near 78° more likely closer to our beach communities. Rain chances today remain quite low across the region. We’ll call it a 10% chance of rain for communities along and west of the Alabama River today. This means if you’re in Clarke, Mobile, Washington, Choctaw, or Wilcox counties, your rain chance is slightly higher than communities farther to the east in Covington, Butler, and Okaloosa counties. Any showers that happen will probably be brief with very little in the way of total rainfall. Cloud coverage will gradually decrease this evening. Temperatures will be in the 70s by 7PM. Rain chances are set to rise this weekend with scattered showers becoming likely on Saturday. It appears our pattern will remain a bit more unsettled as we go into next week with multiple days featuring chances of rain. Let’s look at all of your forecast details.
PARTLY CLOUDY THURSDAY… Skies will be partly cloudy on Thursday with very low (0-10%) rain chances across our region. Could there be a shower or two? Yes. The chance of any given spot having rain before the end of the day remains very low, however. High temperatures will likely make a run at the UPPER-80s, meaning plenty of warmth for all of us to spend some time outside in the sunshine. If you’re looking for sunshine, and I assume many parents are considering we have students out of school because of coronavirus, get outside today and Thursday because we will have rain around on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and potentially into Monday as well.
RAIN CHANCES RISE FRIDAY… Cloud coverage will increase Thursday night ahead of scattered showers becoming likely on Friday. Most of the rain Friday will happen in the evening hours. High temperatures Friday will be in the mid-80s ahead of cooler air arriving on Saturday.
COOLER AIR ARRIVES ON SATURDAY… A cold front will push across our region from northwest to southeast on Saturday, meaning cooler air will start flowing in from the north. High temperatures on Saturday will be in the upper-70s. Rain will stick around into Saturday and Sunday as the frontal boundary will move just offshore. Fortunately, no severe weather is expected.
RAIN AT TIMES SUNDAY… Rain will continue to be possible on Sunday as high temperatures drop into the low- to mid-70s. There could be a few thunderstorms at the immediate coast on Sunday, but I don’t expect any severe weather issues.
SOMEWHAT UNSETTLED EARLY NEXT WEEK… Temperatures will begin to progressively rise on Monday as scattered showers continue to be a part of our forecast as we go into early next week. Highs will be in the upper-70s on Monday with a chance of showers in the late morning and afternoon hours.
SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK… This week (March 16-21) was supposed to serve as the annual severe weather awareness week in Alabama, although you wouldn’t be at fault if you didn’t know this because it has been buried (and rightfully so) under headlines about the current COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic. We are in mid-March, meaning we are rapidly approaching the heart of primary severe weather season here in the Deep South. It is important to BE READY for severe weather, knowing where you would go and what you need to do. Be sure to check with me every morning on Facebook and in the RedZone Weather app as you plan your day! We post a detailed update Monday through Saturday by 7:15AM.
