LEVEL 4 (OUT OF 5) RISK EXPANDED: STRONG TORNADOES POSSIBLE… The Storm Prediction Center has added a big chunk of Alabama that was not previously included into their Level 4 (out of 5) risk zone, driven by a slightly higher risk of strong tornadoes. Locally, this adds Monroe, Covington, Conecuh, Butler, much of Escambia (AL) counties into the higher risk zone that was previously in place for only west Alabama locally. The remainder of us remain in the Level 3 (out of 5) risk except communities at the Alabama beachfront, which are in a slightly lower risk area. In addition to the strong, potentially long track, tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail will also be possible. HAVE A WAY TO GET WARNINGS LATER TODAY and TAKE ACTION when warnings are issued!
STORMS FIRING TO OUR WEST… Several tornado warnings (with confirmed tornadoes) are happening late this morning across then northern part of Louisiana. Storms are firing up across parts of Mississippi that we will need to keep a close eye on over the next several hours.
GREATEST RISK THIS EVENING LOCALLY… Our window for severe weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida will be from 3PM this afternoon to 3AM on Monday morning, with the core risk being from 6PM to midnight. Please have a way to get warnings and if you’re headed to sleep before the round of storms is over, you’ll need something that can wake you up if your specific area goes under a tornado warning.
