OUTLOOK UPGRADE: LEVEL 4 SEVERE WEATHER RISK FOR SUNDAY… The risk of tornadoes on Sunday evening into the overnight hours of Monday morning continues to increase. Unfortunately, just like the severe weather event last (Easter) Sunday, there is a growing chance that a few strong tornadoes could be involved with this event. While we don’t know exactly where these stronger tornadoes may happen, the Level 4 risk zone provides a general idea. The Storm Prediction Center has placed inland areas of south Alabama in this Level 4 risk with areas closer to the immediate coast being involved in the Level 3 (out of 5) enhanced severe weather risk zone valid for Sunday. It has been quite some time since we had back-to-back weeks of a severe weather risk level of this magnitude, although this is April in the Deep South. This is the peak season for severe weather around our region.
LEVEL 4 RISK INLAND… As of 1PM Saturday, SPC has added parts of Clarke, Monroe, Washington, Conecuh, Escambia (AL), Butler, Wilcox, Choctaw, Covington, and Crenshaw counties in southwest Alabama into their Level 4 (out of 5) risk zone. These are the zones where the risk of a significant tornado will be highest on Sunday into early Monday. The risk of damaging winds is also highest in these counties locally.
