EVACUATIONS RECOMMENDED NEAR AVALON… Firefighters continue to battle the 5 Mile Swamp Fire in southern Santa Rosa County, FL. Evacuations have been requested for areas east of Avalon Blvd. near Garcon Point. Today’s wind shift out of the north has caused the fire to become larger and shift its overall direction, per the latest from Santa Rosa County Emergency Management. This is located near Bagdad and Avalon.
STATEMENT FROM SANTA ROSA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT… “Based on projected weather patterns that will continue to support extreme fire behavior, evacuations are recommended for residents east of Avalon Blvd. to the Blackwater River, south of Interstate 10.” We encourage everyone in this area to HEED this evacuation order as this wildfire is burning in an environment favorable for rapid spreading/burning!
