TROPICAL STORM LAURA LIKELY TO BE HURRICANE IN GULF NEXT WEEK… TD13 has just been upgraded to Tropical Storm Laura. The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center continues to suggest that Laura will be a hurricane in the eastern Gulf of Mexico by late Monday or early Tuesday. The latest NHC projected path shows Laura moving toward the northern Gulf Coast by Wednesday, with landfall likely somewhere between Grand Isle, Louisiana eastward to Tallahassee, Florida.
POTENTIAL LOCAL IMPACTS DUE TO LAURA… While there continues to be uncertainty regarding just how strong Laura will be in the eastern Gulf of Mexico in 4-5 days, odds are increasing that local impacts in south Alabama and northwest Florida may happen. Confidence in this idea will likely increase tomorrow (Saturday) once we have a better grasp of just how strong Laura is and where the center moves in relation to the Greater Antilles. Regardless of this, folks in south Alabama and northwest Florida should continue to closely monitor Tropical Storm Laura over the next few days.
I’ll have more details later today. More posts coming over the next few hours in the RedZone Weather app!
