RAIN AT TIMES TODAY; ISOLATED SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE THURSDAY… Showers will be possible at times on this Wednesday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. The remnants of Tropical Depression Beta will move northeast over the next few days, ushering in more in the way of Gulf moisture across our region tomorrow (Thursday). This could potentially act as a catalyst for a few isolated tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center has added a low-end severe weather risk zone valid for Thursday to account for this possibility. Temperatures will begin to moderate today with most spots reaching 80 degrees by 3PM. After a record-setting streak of activity in the tropics, we are finally beginning to calm down with the final advisory being issued on Tropical Depression Beta. We will maintain a chance of rain through the weekend, but we are FINALLY seeing some signs that the early part of next week could have some sunshine. Your Wednesday forecast details are below.

MARGINAL SEVERE WEATHER RISK ON THURSDAY… The Storm Prediction Center has added a Level 1 (out of 5) low-end, marginal severe weather risk valid for Thursday for the entire local area. This risk zone includes the entire southern half of Alabama and northwest Florida and is in place due to the potential for a few, brief tornadoes that could happen as a result of the remnant circulation of Tropical Depression Beta moving by to our west and northwest. The main severe weather risk on Thursday will likely happen in the afternoon and evening hours.

LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL… Sunshine is expected to return as we get into the early part of the upcoming week. Partly cloudy skies are expected on Monday followed by mostly sunny skies for Tuesday and Wednesday. High temperatures will be in the mid-80s Sunday through Tuesday with overnight lows in the 60s.

REMNANTS OF BETA TO PASS BY OUR AREA TO THE WEST… The National Hurricane Center issued their final advisory on Tropical Depression Beta, centered over southeast Texas. All of the deep convection associated with Beta was basically obliterated by dry air that was wrapped into the center of the circulation. Lingering rain at times will continue across east Texas and Louisiana today into tonight.

LARGE HURRICANE TEDDY BECOMES EXTRATROPICAL… Hurricane Teddy has made landfall in Nova Scotia as a powerful extratropical cyclone. NHC described the storm as “ginormous” yesterday due to the expansive field of tropical storm force and hurricane force winds. Significant impacts will continue in the Canadian maritimes today into tonight, but Teddy will not be a direct local issue for Alabama or northwest Florida.

PAULETTE NOT A CONCERN FOR NORTH AMERICA… Tropical Storm Paulette regenerated into a tropical cyclone late Monday evening. The storm is near the Azores in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. Paulette won’t last long the circulation is expected to fade away over the next few days.
