NICE, MILD WEEKEND; COOL DOWN COMING MONDAY… Plenty of sunshine is expected today and into the weekend. High temperatures today will be in the upper-70s. Temperatures will be perfect this evening for all of the high school football playoff games set to happen across the region. Game time temperatures will start in the low-60s, falling into the 50s during many of the games. Mostly sunny skies are likely on Saturday ahead of increasingly cloudy skies on Sunday. Rain chances will remain very low all weekend long. Cooler air is set to move in on Monday behind an advancing cold front. We also continue to watch an area of disturbed weather in the Caribbean Sea that will likely become a tropical storm. Your Friday forecast details are below.

INVEST 98L IN CARIBBEAN SEA… There remains a high (90%) chance that a tropical storm (the 30th of the year in the Atlantic basin) will form in the Caribbean Sea over the next day or so. This tropical wave is currently branded as INVEST 98L. We note that most of the major global models ramp this up to a tropical storm or a hurricane on approach to Central America in a few days. Most global models show no impacts for the Gulf of Mexico from this storm, which will take the name “Iota” when/if it forms. We’ll keep you posted about this system in the RedZone Weather app this weekend.

ETA ON THE WAY OUT… Tropical Storm Eta continues to race northeastward out into the Atlantic Ocean just south of the North Carolina coastline this morning. Eta will become extratropical shortly. No direct impacts from Eta are expected in south Alabama or northwest Florida.

TROPICAL STORM THETA… Tropical Storm Theta is located in the far eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean, southwest of Spain and Portugal. Theta is likely to fade away over the next few days and does not pose a significant risk to any land areas.

SUNNY, QUIET WEATHER… The next 7-9 days continue to look dry and mostly sunny. Rain chances will be sparse in the days ahead, which is not the best news considering some of our region now seems abnormally dry.

APP… Many updates will be posted throughout the day in the RedZone Weather app. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Be sure to visit the Alerts tab (bottom right corner) and tap the large, yellow “Alert Settings” button to customize the alerts you’d like to receive from me. If you like a lot of info, be sure to toggle ON Low-Level Alerts.
