SUNNY, QUIET PATTERN THROUGH THE WEEKEND… Sunshine reigns supreme on this Wednesday. High temperatures will be in the upper-60s across the region. Sunny, quiet days are ahead, at least through Saturday with highs increasing to around the upper-70s by the weekend. Overnight lows will rise into the 50s by Saturday morning. Looking ahead, we will have some chance of rain as we go into next week. The tropics are FINALLY beginning to become more quiet. Let’s look at a few forecast details.

FINAL ADVISORY ON IOTA EXPECTED LATER TODAY… What once was a category 5 hurricane on approach to Nicaragua (Iota) has now weakened. Iota is a decaying system, located over the high terrain of Central America. The final advisory on Iota is expected later today. Heavy rain and potential mudslides from the decaying system that is Iota will continue to be a concern across parts of Central America.

LOW CHANCE OF DEVELOPMENT IN CARIBBEAN… The National Hurricane Center continues to highlight an area of potential concern in the southwestern Caribbean Sea that now has a low-end (20-30%) chance of becoming a tropical depression or tropical storm over the next few days. From NHC: “A broad area of low pressure could form in a day or so over the southwestern Caribbean Sea. Environmental conditions do not appear to be as conducive for development as previously thought, but slow development is possible over the next several days while the system moves slowly westward or west-southwestward across the southwestern Caribbean Sea. Regardless of tropical cyclone formation, areas of heavy rain are possible during the next several days from Nicaragua southward across Central America and into Colombia. These rains could cause new flooding concerns, especially across previously inundated areas.”

MOSTLY SUNNY WEEKEND AHEAD… Another nice, calm weather weekend is ahead for our region. Slightly warmer temperatures are ahead this weekend. Mostly sunny skies should continue through Saturday and Sunday. I cannot completely rule out an isolated shower or two on Sunday, but I expect vast majority of us to remain dry.
