MULTIPLE ROUNDS OF RAIN & STORMS AHEAD THROUGH FRIDAY… More rain and thunderstorms are likely at times on this Wednesday, particularly in the evening hours. We have multiple rounds of rain and storms ahead, including the potential for some heavier rain and louder storms on Thursday evening into Friday morning as a cold front moves across our region. Much cooler air moves in on Friday and into the weekend. It looks like we will dry out somewhat on Sunday into Monday ahead of more rain becoming possible in the early part of next week. I’ve got all of your Wednesday forecast details below.
RAIN & STORMS AT TIMES TODAY INTO TONIGHT… Rain and a few thunderstorms will be possible at times today into tonight. I expect the overall chance of rain and storms to progressively increase throughout the day. This means that by the time we get into the evening hours, there may be scattered to numerous showers and storms around, including some storms that become quite noisy at times. For now, the overall risk of severe weather remains quite low. High temperatures today will be in the low-70s. That is about 10-12 degrees above where we should be, climatologically speaking, for mid-February.
ANOTHER ROUND OF STORMS THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY… Showers will be possible on Thursday morning before rain chances ramp up yet again for Thursday evening. A cold front that has been moving very slowly about 200 miles to our northwest will finally cross our local area on Thursday night. There is a chance we could have a few noisy thunderstorms around during the frontal passage. At this point, however, severe weather continues to seem quite unlikely.
COOLER TEMPS THIS WEEKEND… High temperatures on Friday and on Saturday will be in the 50s as much cooler air moves into our region behind the advancing cold front. Overnight lows on Saturday morning will be in the mid-40s but we will drop into the 30s by Sunday morning and potentially to near the freezing mark by Monday morning. There could be a few showers around on Saturday, but I expect rain coverage to gradually taper off Saturday into Saturday night.
DRIER CONDITIONS SUNDAY INTO MONDAY… Forecast confidence in 4-5 days is unusually low, mainly due to the fact that we cannot answer the question of just how far southeast the very cold air to our northwest will move. If current model trends are to be believed, our local area in south Alabama and northwest Florida would escape the VERY cold air with overnight lows in the 20s. We still will have cold air in place Sunday night into Monday, but not nearly as cold as some model guidance has suggested. Regardless of specific temperatures, it looks like Sunday and the daytime hours of Monday should be mostly dry.
