MORE SHOWERS & STORMS THIS EVENING INTO FRIDAY… Fog is quite dense this morning in many spots across the region. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect. Please take it easy if you’re headed out early this morning! Rain and a few thunderstorms will become possible on this Thursday, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures today will be in the mid-70s. I expect rain and storms to become more numerous in the hours after sunset. Rain chances will likely peak in many spots early Friday morning. Cooler air will arrive for inland areas later tonight as a cold front arrives in our area and ultimately stalls. This means some spots on Friday could be in the mid-60s closer to the coast and in the 50s farther inland. We’re also looking ahead to more rain chances next week. I’ve got your full forecast details below.

INCREASING RAIN CHANCES THIS EVENING… While severe weather remains highly unlikely, there could be a few rumbles of thunder this evening into tonight as scattered showers and thunderstorms increase in coverage across the area. Showers and storms may be quite numerous across our region on Friday morning, thus we all will need to keep the rain gear close by.

RAIN AT TIMES FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY… Showers are likely at times tomorrow (Friday) and into Friday night. High temperatures on Friday will vary quite a bit across the region due to the placement of a stalled cold front. If your location is north of the front, cooler temperatures will prevail and highs will likely be in the 50s. If you are south of the frontal boundary, highs on Friday could easily be in the mid-60s. Rain on Friday night could linger into the early part of Saturday morning.

DRIER DAY ON SUNDAY… Sunday looks to be one of our driest days out of the next seven days. Keep in mind that rain chances will be lower (10-20% chance range) but not entirely zero. Highs on Sunday will be the 50s across the region.

MORE RAIN NEXT WEEK… Rain chances will again rise on Monday into Tuesday of the upcoming week. Highs will be in the 50s on Monday and Tuesday with overnight lows likely in the upper-30s or low-40s. For now, precipitation next week is forecast to be entirely rain. Confidence in the potential for any snow or mixed precipitation continues to be quite low. More information on why below.

RUMORS OF LOCAL ICE STORM & SNOW… I’ve been asked countless times lately if we are going to have some snow or maybe even an ice storm in our local area in the next week or so. The answer remains, “probably not.” The American-based GFS weather model has been performing particularly poorly in the medium range (7-14 days out) lately. This is one of the reasons we have seen some pronounced shifts in projected temperatures in the last week. The GFS simply is not performing as it should. Thus, our 7 Day Forecast leans in a bit more as of now to other weather models (like the ECMWF/Euro) that have been performing better than the GFS. I say that to say, do not put much stock into the potential for snow or ice storms for our local area anytime soon. Could it happen? Yes, but right now, it seems wise based on all the evidence we have to discount the more extreme GFS solutions.
