NEW PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION TORNADO WATCH TILL 3AM… The Storm Prediction Center has issued a new Tornado Watch valid until 3AM. This Tornado Watch is considered a Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) watch as more long-tracked, strong tornadoes will be possible locally in the hours ahead. We have already had extensive damage and injuries in parts of northwestern Clarke County and more damage like that across parts of our area will be possible in the hours ahead. The new Tornado Watch is valid for Baldwin, Mobile, Escambia (AL), Butler, Conecuh, Monroe, Clarke, and Washington counties and areas farther north and east.
HIGH (LEVEL 5 OUT OF 5) RISK EXPANDED… The high (Level 5 out of 5) risk zone has been expanded this evening to include northern parts of Clarke, Washington, and Wilcox counties. The Level 4 (out of 5) significant severe weather risk zone includes parts of Butler, Monroe, Conecuh, Escambia (AL), northern Baldwin, and northern Mobile counties. This means that more tornadoes will be possible in these areas, including the potential for long-tracked, strong tornadoes. It cannot be stressed enough: Have a way to get warnings in the hours ahead!
WHAT TO EXPECT – NEXT FEW HOURS… We will need to keep a close eye on the developing showers and thunderstorms bubbling up across parts of inland areas of south Alabama as some of these storms could ramp up to become supercell thunderstorms capable of quickly dropping a tornado. The main batch of thunderstorms (round 2 of 2) is currently rapidly moving eastward across parts of southeast Mississippi. Once this line of storms moves through your location, we will be able to give a definitive “all clear” to your location. That process will take time, but the good news is this line of storms seems to be moving a bit quicker and ahead of the ongoing projections.
APP ALERTS… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.
We will go into live video coverage in the hours ahead when/if a tornado warning becomes required for any part of our local area. Stay weather aware in the hours ahead!
