MAINLY SUNNY MONDAY; HEAVY RAIN AHEAD MIDWEEK; STRONG STORMS THURSDAY… Our area will have nice weather today ahead of an unsettled, wet week with a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms slated for Thursday into early Friday. High temperatures on this Monday will be in the low- to mid-70s. Rain chances will rise on Tuesday, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. There could be a few rumbles of thunder Tuesday night, but the focus will be on the heavy rain that could quickly lead to flash flooding Tuesday night into Wednesday. Rain will continue at times on Wednesday ahead of a chance of strong to severe storms on Thursday. All modes of severe weather will be possible, including the potential for tornadoes, damaging straight line winds, large hail, and flash flooding. Unfortunately, it looks like the upcoming weekend could feature rain and storms as well. All of your Monday morning forecast details are below.

INCREASING CLOUDINESS TONIGHT… Clouds will increase in coverage throughout the day, mainly this afternoon into this evening. Skies will be mostly cloudy in the overnight hours with low temperatures in the mid-50s.

SCATTERED SHOWERS & STORMS TUESDAY… Rain and thunderstorms will likely spread eastward across the region on Tuesday afternoon and evening as a messy, complex weather system sets up across much of the Deep South. Rain could be quite heavy at times in the evening hours. Right now, severe weather (tornadoes and damaging wind) seems rather unlikely on Tuesday. Highs will be in the mid-70s.

HEAVY RAIN & STORMS TUESDAY NIGHT & WEDNESDAY… There is a real chance we may have a prolonged rain event from late Tuesday evening through Wednesday midday. Wednesday looks to be a potential “all day washout” type day with heavy rain and thunderstorms being possible pretty much all day. Due to all of the clouds and rain around, temperatures will be held to the low-70s in the afternoon hours. Flash flooding could quickly become a concern, particularly in areas closer to the Alabama coast where rain amounts are expected to be a bit higher overall.

STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE THURSDAY… Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible locally on Thursday, perhaps extending into early Friday. We will be able to get more specific about the timeline in the days ahead. What we know as of now is that an area of low pressure will pass to our northwest, causing south Alabama and northwest Florida to be in the warm sector out ahead of an advancing frontal boundary. This warm, Gulf air will pave the way for thunderstorms to form that could be potentially strong or severe. The big headline as of this morning is that we want folks to be aware of a severe weather potential setting up for later in the week, specifically on Thursday. I will have more info about the severe weather risk posted a bit later today.

APP ALERTS… If you haven’t already, be sure to download the free RedZone Weather app to keep up with all the latest information on the world of weather in south Alabama and northwest Florida. redzoneweather.com/app is the link for the free download. Once you have the app downloaded to your iOS or Android device, be sure to visit the Alerts tab (lower right corner) and tap the large, yellow Alert Settings button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.
