SCATTERED, POP-UP STORMS THIS AFTERNOON; FEELING LIKE SUMMER… Scattered thunderstorms are likely to pop up this afternoon into this evening across the region. High temperatures on this Thursday will be in the upper-80s. Keep in mind that the storms that fire up this afternoon into this evening will be scattered in nature, meaning some areas won’t have rain before the end of the day. Some communities, however, may have upwards of a half inch of rain in total due to the localized nature of the storms. Over the next few days, our weather pattern will not change much at all. We’re calling for scattered storms each day for the next week or so with most of the storms happening in the P.M. hours each day. A few more Thursday morning forecast notes are below.
POP-UP STORMS FRIDAY AND INTO THE WEEKEND… Rain chances will gradually increase over the next few days with more communities likely experiencing scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours. These storms, in most cases, will be under severe limits. The main concerns in any storms that fire up today or over the next few days will be heavy rain and cloud-to-ground lightning.
NO REAL FORECAST CHANGES EARLY NEXT WEEK… Scattered thunderstorms will be the norm next week as well. Rain chances will likely creep up a bit Monday into Tuesday. Highs next week will be in the mid- to upper-80s with morning lows in the 60s.
TROPICS REMAIN QUIET… The north Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico remain quiet with no tropical storms expected to form over the next 5-7 days. We had already had two named tropical storms by this point last year and were about to locally deal with Tropical Storm Cristobal in early June. The 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season would end up being the most active hurricane season on record with 30 named storms. NOAA is projecting this season to feature 13-20 named storms with 6-10 hurricanes.
