HOTTEST DAY OF 2021 SO FAR; SCATTERED STORMS… High temperatures will be in the mid-90s today with heat index values likely to be in the 105-110° range by 3PM in what will likely be our hottest day of the year so far. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to pop up later today, primarily in the afternoon and evening hours. Our weather pattern over the next 7-10 days will be quite consistent, which is typical for this time of year. High temperatures will be in the 90s with lows in the low- to mid-70s with a chance of storms each day. We continue to watch a weak area of low pressure near the Atlantic coast of Florida that has a small window to develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm as the system drifts west toward the Florida and Georgia coast. A few more Monday morning forecast details are below.
INVEST 90L REMAINS WEAK; REMAINDER OF TROPICS QUIET… We note the Atlantic basin (including the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea) remains quiet other than an area of disturbed weather near the Florida and Georgia coastline. The National Hurricane Center continues to decrease the odds of development for INVEST 90L. The disturbance is expected to move inland later today. From NHC: “Satellite and radar data indicate that showers associated with a low pressure area located about 150 miles east-southeast of Jacksonville, Florida, remain disorganized and limited in coverage. However, environmental conditions are marginally conducive for development, and a tropical depression could still form overnight or on Monday while the low moves slowly west-northwestward or northwestward, reaching the coast of northeastern Florida or Georgia Monday evening or Monday night.”
SEASONAL SUMMER PATTERN AHEAD… I see no reason to modify the ongoing forecast in a major way over the next few days. Our local area in south Alabama and northwest Florida will continue to have pop-up thunderstorms each day. High temperatures will be in the 90s with heat index values in excess of 100 degrees each day.
