FEWER STORMS AROUND TODAY; TROPICAL WAVE NEAR AFRICA… Other than a few showers and localized thunderstorms this afternoon into this evening, today will be a fairly quiet weather day across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will be near the 90 degree mark this afternoon. This pattern will hold over the next 2-3 days, in which we will have a few thunderstorms around but probably not widespread storms. Most of the storms will happen in the afternoon and evening hours. We are now tracking two tropical disturbances in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean that each have a low-end chance of becoming a tropical storm over the next few days. More Wednesday morning forecast details are below.
TROPICAL DISTURBANCE NEAR CABO VERDE ISLANDS… The National Hurricane Center has outlined two areas where tropical storms have very low-end chances of forming through the weekend. The first area of disturbed weather is associated with a tropical area of low pressure very near the Cabo Verde Islands in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean. This system has a 10% chance of developing into a tropical storm as it moves northwest, but the upper-level environment ahead of the system is not conducive for development. This means that even if this system develops into a tropical depression or tropical storm briefly, it won’t last long.
TROPICAL WAVE TO EMERGE FROM AFRICA… The second, distinct system that now has a 20-30% chance of becoming a tropical storm in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean is a tropical wave that is currently over land areas in western Africa. This system could become a tropical storm as it moves west at approximately 15 mph. Regardless of if development happens, this system is many days out from being a problem for any part of North America or Central America. Nothing to worry about for now, but something to keep an eye on over the next few days.
