SCATTERED STORMS TODAY; HOTTER TEMPS AHEAD; TRACKING GRACE & HENRI… Increasingly hotter temperatures are ahead over the next several days along with an afternoon chance of showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances today will be higher compared to what is ahead this weekend. We will have a slightly lower rain chance Saturday and Sunday, but unfortunately temperatures will rise into the upper-90s by Sunday afternoon. Heat index values will be in the triple digit range. We continue to track Hurricane Grace, currently over the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, and Henri in the Atlantic Ocean southwest of Bermuda. I’ve got all of your Thursday morning forecast details below.
FEW ISOLATED STORMS LIKELY THIS WEEKEND… Rain chances are set to be lower, but not quite zero this weekend, as heat content builds into our area under an upper ridge of high pressure. High temperatures will be in the upper-90s by Sunday with heat index values likely to be near 107°. A few showers and thunderstorms may happen in the afternoon and evening hours. Widespread severe weather is not expected.
HURRICANE GRACE OVER THE YUCATAN PENINSULA… Grace made landfall in the last 12 hours in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico where a Hurricane Warning continues this morning. Grace is set to continue to move west toward the Bay of Campeche today. Hurricane conditions are expected along the northern coast of Mexico (south of Texas) as Grace approaches over the next few days. We can conclusively give south Alabama and northwest Florida an “all clear” from Hurricane Grace as the storm will remain well to the south of our local area.
HENRI COULD SWIPE NEW ENGLAND WHILE HEADED NORTH… The forecast for Henri continues to become a bit more difficult, as model guidance has significantly shifted westward over the last 24 hours. Henri very well could strike parts of New England or the northeastern U.S. in the days ahead as a hurricane. Impacts could happen in New York City, Long Island, and Cape Cod. That is not an exhaustive list. Please be aware of Henri if you have interests in the Northeast over the next few days. Henri is not expected to directly impact south Alabama or northwest Florida.
