SUNNY, NICE WEEKEND AHEAD; P.M. STORMS RETURN NEXT WEEK… We certainly have had enough active weather for awhile. This Labor Day weekend will feature nice, quiet, yet warm conditions across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Mostly sunny skies are likely today, tomorrow, and into Sunday. We could have a few showers and storms closer to the immediate coast on Sunday, primarily in the P.M. hours. Daily afternoon and evening showers and storms will become more numerous next week. A few more Friday morning forecast notes are below.

HURRICANE LARRY IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN… Larry continues to become a powerful hurricane in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. The National Hurricane Center indicates rapid strengthening is expected over the next day or so as Hurricane Larry continues moving west-northwest. The good news is no land impacts are expected due to Larry over the next several days.

CARIBBEAN DISTURBANCE REMAINS DISORGANIZED… The tropical disturbance we have been tracking for several days in the western Caribbean Sea remains largely disorganized. This system is expected to move northwest across the Yucatan Peninsula, into the Bay of Campeche, before ultimately moving into mainland Mexico south of Texas. Odds of development remain very low (10-20% chance). We’ll keep watching, but so far, the trends have been good with this system showing it remaining weak in the days ahead.

NEW TROPICAL STORM MAY FORM NEAR AFRICA… A new tropical storm may form this weekend due to a tropical wave that has emerged in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean. Odds of development remain fairly low (only a 30% chance) but this system could bring heavy rain and potentially tropical storm conditions to the Cabo Verde Islands over the next day or so. Certainly nothing to worry with as of now as this system is a very long way away from North America.
