MOSTLY SUNNY & MILD TODAY; SCATTERED STORMS ON THURSDAY… Another gorgeous day is ahead for south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Tuesday. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-70s today. Other than a few passing clouds, I expect the day to be sunny with no rain. Our next rain chance happens late tomorrow night into Thursday ahead of an advancing, strong cold front that will knock down temperatures into the 50s/60s for highs on Friday. The upcoming weekend is shaping up to be quite nice! We continue to monitor Tropical Storm Wanda in the Atlantic Ocean and a new area of low pressure in the southern Caribbean Sea in the tropics. I’ve got all of your Tuesday morning forecast notes below.
CLOUDS INCREASE IN COVERAGE TOMORROW… I am expecting the daytime hours of Wednesday to be dry ahead of a chance of a few showers in the late evening hours (after 8PM). Cloud coverage will increase throughout the day on Wednesday. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-70s. Most of the rain associated with our next passing weather system will happen on Thursday, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours.
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ON THURSDAY… Rain and occasional thunderstorms will be possible on Thursday as a cold front approaches our local area from the northwest. I expect most of the showers and thunderstorms to happen in the afternoon and evening hours, although there may be a few sprinkles around as early as the morning hours on Thursday. Highs on Thursday will only be in the upper-60s, meaning instability return ahead of the cold front will be fairly (if not completely) limited. This is one of the reasons the overall severe weather risk on Thursday remains low, if not zero, in most spots. Could this change? Yes, but odds are this will be a fairly benign weather system. Rain clears out late Thursday.
MUCH COOLER ON FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND… Keep those jackets out and grab the heavier jackets as our area will have HIGH temperatures in the upper-50s and near 60 on Friday! Overnight lows by Saturday morning will be in the upper-30s with areas near the coast closer to the 40 degree mark. Saturday and Sunday will likely be sunny with highs in the upper-60s and low-70s.
TROPICS: WANDA NOW A TROPICAL STORM; NO THREAT TO LAND… Wanda transitioned from a subtropical storm to a tropical storm yesterday afternoon. Tropical Storm Wanda is located about 885 miles west-southwest of the Azores Islands, aka in the middle of the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Wanda will not be a threat to land over the next few days. The storm is expected to start moving to the north over the next day or so.
TROPICS: AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IN SOUTHERN CARIBBEAN… An area of low pressure in the southern Caribbean Sea near the coasts of Panama and Nicaragua now has a low-end (10%) chance of becoming a tropical storm over the next day or so. From NHC: “Another low pressure system has formed over the southwestern Caribbean Sea just north of western Panama. This system is expected to move westward into Central America by early Tuesday, which will inhibit tropical cyclone development. However, this disturbance will still produce locally heavy rainfall across southern Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama through Tuesday, which could result in flooding and mudslides. By Wednesday, the system will move into the far eastern portion of the Eastern Pacific basin.”
TROPICS: GULF REMAINS QUIET… No tropical storm formation is expected in the Gulf of Mexico over the next 5 days. It is important to monitor any systems that flare up in the Caribbean Sea in the month of November, but as of now, there are no imminent concerns.
