SUNNY TUESDAY; COLD RAIN LIKELY THIS WEEKEND… Sunshine is the story on this Tuesday ahead of rain setting up for Wednesday night into Thursday. Another round of rain this weekend will likely cause significant snow/ice issues across parts of the Deep South. Right now, the greatest probability of snow and/or mild precipitation appears to likely set up across areas just to our north and east. It is too early to know for sure exactly where the “demarcation line” for snow and ice will be this weekend. Most likely, it will be north or east of our local area. Before we get to any potential for snow and ice, we do have rain on the way for Wednesday night into Thursday as a cold front moves across our region. A few more Monday forecast notes are below.
SUNNY TODAY; MOSTLY CLEAR TONIGHT… Full sunshine is expected across the region today. High temperatures will be in the upper-50s and near 60 in most spots. Overnight, other than a few passing clouds, a calm, cool night is expected. Overnight lows by 6AM Wednesday will be in the 40s.
SHOWERS POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY; RAIN LIKELY WEDNESDAY NIGHT… A cold front will approach the area from the northwest on Wednesday, paving the way for a few showers to develop in the afternoon and evening hours. Highs on Wednesday will approach the 70 degree mark in many locales. Rain chances will steadily increase throughout the day and become higher in the overnight hours. Widespread severe weather is not anticipated with this passing weather system, although there may be a few rumbles of thunder near the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches. Much cooler air will arrive on Thursday into Friday.
MORE RAIN POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND; SNOW/MIX UNCERTAIN… Forecast confidence continues to be rather low as we approach the upcoming weekend. An area of low pressure is expected to develop to our west, and exactly where that happens will determine quite a bit regarding our local forecast for the weekend. What we know: Rain will be likely at times Friday into Saturday. This likely will be a cold, miserable rain. What we don’t know: Is snow or mixed precipitation a real possibility locally? Most models suggest not, although there have been a few outlier models that show at least some snow or mixed precipitation mixing in with the rain passing through the area this weekend.
