SHOWERS TODAY; SLICK SPOTS POSSIBLE ON LOCAL ROADS; COLD WEEKEND… Take it slow if you’re on the road this morning as we have ongoing areas of sprinkles and light rain happening across the area. These showers may happen in zones where temperatures are at or below freezing, meaning freezing rain will continue to be a possibility over the next hour or two. This means that bridges and roads could become hazardous if ice accumulates in a given area. Rain showers will continue to be possible over the next few hours. Temperatures will remain quite cold into the weekend with a hard freeze likely Saturday night into Sunday. A few more Friday morning forecast notes are below.
RAIN ENDS LATER TODAY; COLD ALL DAY… Showers will continue to move out of our region to the east later today, meaning most of the rain will come to an end by 3PM. We may have a few residual showers into the evening hours, but most spots should be drying out by that point. Temperatures will only peak in the low-40s this afternoon. Some spots across the interior of southwest Alabama may only peak in the upper-30s. Cold day!
CLEARING SKIES SATURDAY AFTERNOON; HIGHS IN 50s THIS WEEKEND… Cloud coverage will gradually diminish in the late morning and early afternoon hours on Saturday. Temperatures will remain quite chilly throughout the weekend with highs on Saturday and Sunday only near 50 each day. Rain is not anticipated on Saturday or Sunday.
HARD FREEZE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING… Saturday night into Sunday morning will feature the coldest temperatures our area has experienced in quite some time. Overnight lows by 6AM Sunday will be in the low- to mid-20s. That is the projected air temperature (aka what you see on the thermometer). That value does not take into account the wind speed, meaning wind chill values will be a bit lower. Please remember to bring outdoor pets inside this weekend during this hard freeze.
NEXT RAIN CHANCE: LATE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY… Saturday, Sunday, and the daytime hours of Monday are expected to be dry. Our next weather system will set up to our west in the form of a developing area of low pressure on Monday. This system will move across our region late Monday into Tuesday, bringing our next chance of showers.
