TURNING COLDER TODAY; LOWS IN THE 20s TONIGHT… Significantly colder air is set to move into south Alabama and northwest Florida behind a cold front today. Highs will top out in the 50s today ahead of overnight lows slated to be in the low- to mid-20s tonight into early Saturday morning. Sunshine will return to our area before the end of the day and Saturday is expected to be sunny as well despite high temperatures only being in the 40s.
BECOMING SUNNY LATER TODAY… Clouds will decrease in coverage across the region today and most spots should become sunny by the end of the day. High temperatures will peak in the mid-50s this afternoon.
VERY COLD TEMPS OVERNIGHT… Temperatures will rapidly dive into the 30s by 10PM this evening. Temperatures are forecast to be at or below the freezing mark from 2AM to 8AM, meaning an approximate 6 hour window of subfreezing temperatures. Wind chill values on Saturday morning will be in the mid-10s near the Alabama Highway 10 corridor in parts of Butler, Wilcox, and Marengo counties. Wind chill values in the upper-10s will be possible as far south as US84.
HIGHS ONLY IN THE 40s ON SATURDAY… Keep the jackets handy on Saturday as high temperatures are projected to only be in the 40s in the afternoon hours. A brisk northwest wind will make the air temperature feel a lot colder than it actually is. Full sunshine is in the forecast for Saturday.
HARD FREEZE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY… There is a real chance temperatures may be at or below the freezing mark for a solid 10-12 hours Saturday night into Sunday morning. Low temperatures on Sunday morning will be in the low-20s in many locales across inland stretches of south Alabama. Lows will be below freezing even near the Alabama and Northwest Florida beaches.
MODERATING TEMPS NEXT WEEK… A pattern change is expected to happen next week with slightly warmer temperatures likely across our region. High temperatures will be in the 60s with morning lows in the 40s by Tuesday of the upcoming week.
HIGHER RAIN CHANCES BY MIDWEEK… Rain and thunderstorms will be likely Tuesday, Wednesday, into Thursday of the upcoming week. It is a bit too early to know if severe weather issues will be a real possibility, but we note that the Storm Prediction Center is already mentioning a low-end possibility of a few storms by Thursday of the upcoming week. This will be something to watch in the days ahead.
