QUITE HOT TODAY; VERY LOW RAIN CHANCES; SHOWERS & STORMS RETURN THIS WEEKEND... Whew! Get ready for a scorcher today with air temperatures likely to peak in the low-100s across the region on this Wednesday. Heat index values will be in the 105-110° range this afternoon in many spots. Unfortunately, we won’t get much help from the spotty showers and thunderstorms today as rain chances remain rather low. The chance of rain is not zero today, but it remains quite low. This will be the trend today and tomorrow ahead of slightly higher rain chances on Friday and into the upcoming weekend. Next week, our local area will transition to more of a typical summertime pattern with P.M. chances of showers and storms with highs in the 90s. A few more Wednesday morning forecast notes are below.

PERSISTENT HEAT TO CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY… Our area remains at the base of a large ridge of atmospheric high pressure located to our north. This high pressure area is bringing in hot, continental air from the north. This big ridge will cause temperatures to spike to near 105° on Thursday, setting the stage for what could be the hottest day of the year. Heat values will begin to moderate somewhat as we get into the weekend.

RAIN & STORMS LIKELY THIS WEEKEND… If you’ve missed the “daily deluge” of pop-up summer storms across the region, fear not as the seasonal pattern returns this weekend into early next week. Rain chances will rise from around a 30% chance on Friday to a near 50-60% by Monday into Tuesday of the upcoming week. Fortunately, no organized severe storms are expected.

TROPICS QUIET… The northern Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico remain quiet. No tropical storms are expected to develop over the next 5 days.
