SCATTERED STORMS TODAY; LOWER (NOT ZERO) RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND… More showers and thunderstorms will pop up on this Friday across the region. Just like the last few days, not every community will have rain before the end of the day but where rain and storms do fire up, torrential downpours will be possible. Cloud-to-ground lightning, loud thunder, and gusty winds will also accompany the strongest of the storms. No tornado risk anywhere close by south Alabama or northwest Florida today.
LOW-END SEVERE WEATHER RISK ACROSS NORTH ALABAMA TODAY… Huntsville, Decatur, Muscle Shoals, Russellville, Moulton, Scottsboro, and surrounding areas across the far northern part of Alabama are involved in a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk today. This risk is in place exclusively because of a small risk of gusty winds in the stronger storms across the northern part of the state. South Alabama and northwest Florida remain in the “general thunderstorms” zone with no formal risk of severe storms today.
THIS WEEKEND, A FEW STORMS AROUND… Rain chances will be a bit lower this weekend, but certainly not at zero. Isolated thunderstorms will particularly be possible in the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-90s with morning lows in the mid-70s.
ATLANTIC BASIN REMAINS QUIET… No tropical storms are expected to form this weekend in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or Atlantic Ocean. The longer range models through the end of the next 7-10 days seem to point to quiet conditions as well. Hopefully we are able to keep this excellent trend going!
