INCREASING RAIN CHANCES FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND… Today will be the last “mostly dry” day for several days as the overall chance of showers and thunderstorms is set to increase this weekend. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-90s today. Most communities are set to remain dry across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Thursday. A few communities, particularly across the eastern side of our region in Butler, Covington, and Okaloosa counties, have a slightly higher rain chance today, compared to communities farther to the west like Chatom, Grove Hill, and Mobile. Atmospheric moisture content will increase fairly substantially over the next few days, meaning we have a wet Labor Day Weekend ahead. Highs will be in the upper-80s this weekend. Three tropical disturbances are noted in the Atlantic Basin, but the good news is that no tropical trouble is expected across our local area over the next few days. A few more Thursday morning forecast notes are below.
TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN REMAIN QUIET, FOR NOW… Despite all of the activity happening across the Atlantic Basin, no tropical storms or hurricanes are expected to develop across the Caribbean Sea or Gulf of Mexico over the next 5 days. This means that the Labor Day Weekend will be completely devoid of any tropical mischief for our region. Rain possible each day, yes but no hurricane-related issues.
TROPICS: TROPICAL DISTURBANCE NORTHEAST OF ANTILLES LIKELY TO DEVELOP… The tropical wave and associated convection we have been tracking over the last several days has failed to organize into a named tropical storm so far. The National Hurricane Center, however, maintains a high (80%) probability of this system becoming a tropical storm while a general northwesterly movement continues. The system is currently situated a few hundred miles northeast of the Lesser Antilles in the open waters of the central Atlantic Ocean. No U.S. impacts are likely even if formal development happens over the next few days. Impacts from this system will be possible in Bermuda in a few days, however.
TROPICS: BRIEF TROPICAL STORM LIKELY TO DEVELOP IN NORTH ATLANTIC… A swirl of clouds in the northern Atlantic Ocean, well away from any land areas, has a high (80%) chance of becoming a brief, named tropical storm today or tomorrow before the system moves over cooler waters. No land impacts expected, regardless of if development happens.
TROPICS: TROPICAL WAVE IN EAST ATLANTIC REMAINS DISORGANIZED… A tropical wave near the Cabo Verde Islands remains disorganized and is moving into an environment that will be more hostile for further development. This tropical wave will likely be a memory by the time we get to Monday. Good news!
