FIRST TASTE OF FALL HAPPENS NEXT WEEK… Our first cold front of the season will bring a taste of fall early next week as drier air arrives from the north. Rain chances will be much lower on Tuesday and Wednesday next week as dry, continental air briefly takes hold of our local weather pattern. The map attached shows the projected overnight lows for Tuesday morning, September 13 at 6AM. Highs on Tuesday into Wednesday will be in the mid-80s with less humidity, at least temporarily. Our pattern will revert to a more summer like pattern by the end of next week.
STRONG STORMS INLAND THIS EVENING… Heavy rain and gusty winds are happening in parts of Clarke, Washington, Monroe, and Butler counties at the time I am writing this update around 7:50PM. Strong storms near Grove Hill, Zimco, Coffeeville, and Jackson have been producing heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and loud thunder. Storms are also happening near Greenville in Butler County. I expect the overall intensity of storms to gradually decrease over the next few hours. No tornado risk locally tonight, but storms may be loud at times and produce brief gusts of wind.
TROPICS ARE ACTIVE – BUT NOT LOCALLY… We continue to monitor Hurricane Danielle in the North Atlantic Ocean. Danielle is no threat to land and is expected to become post-tropical tomorrow. Hurricane Earl is intensifying south of Bermuda in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Bermuda is now under a Hurricane Watch and Tropical Storm Warning. Impacts in Bermuda from Earl will be possible as early as tomorrow evening. The core of Earl will likely pass close to Bermuda, but probably won’t be a direct hit. Earl is expected to become a powerful, category 4 hurricane over the north Atlantic as the storm moves out to sea this weekend. Two other tropical waves closer to Africa may become tropical storms over the next several days as a general westward or northwestward movement continues. The Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea remain quiet.
