VERY HOT TEMPS OVER NEXT FEW DAYS; HEAT INDEX TO BE NEAR 110°… Hot temperatures and high heat index values will continue today and over the next several days across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will be around 95° this afternoon with heat index values closer to 105°. While a few thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon into this evening, most communities will remain dry. Storms will be widely spaced and won’t last long. Rain chances will be quite low tomorrow and Thursday ahead of significantly higher rain chances into the weekend.
TROPICS QUIET; DON IN ATLANTIC; CALVIN APPROACHING HAWAII…The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea remain quiet with no new tropical storms expected to develop over the next 5-7 days. Subtropical Depression Don continues to meander across the northern Atlantic Ocean. Don is well away from any land areas and will not pose a direct threat to the continental United States. Tropical Storm Calvin, located in the central Pacific Ocean, is moving toward Hawaii. The Big Island of Hawaii is under a Tropical Storm Watch as Calvin approaches from the east. Calvin will never be a direct concern for Alabama or Florida.
