MAINLY SUNNY & HOT TODAY; INCREASED RAIN CHANCES LATER THIS WEEK… Temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-90s again on this Tuesday with heat index values being in the 103-108° range this afternoon. Rain chances are not completely zero today but the odds of any specific community having rain before the end of the day are quite low. Any storms that develop will be capable of producing heavy downpours of rain and quite a bit of lightning. Rain chances will rise as we get into the upcoming weekend with more P.M. storms being possible.
TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea continue to be quiet with no tropical storms expected to form over the next few days.
TROPICS: TROPICAL DISTURBANCE IN CENTRAL ATLANTIC… The tropical wave we have been tracking over the last several days in the central Atlantic Ocean has started moving north. This is good news as the system will likely never impact land areas. From NHC: “Shower and thunderstorm activity has become a little more concentrated in association with an area of low pressure located about 700 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands. Environmental conditions are forecast to be marginally favorable for gradual development of this system over the next few days, and a tropical depression is likely to form during the early part of this week. The system is expected to move northwestward at about 15 mph during the next day or so, and then turn northward over the central subtropical Atlantic by late Monday or Tuesday.”
TROPICS: LOW PRESSURE AREA SOUTH OF NEWFOUNDLAND… An area of low pressure that moved rapidly northeast from near the North Carolina coast yesterday has moved into the northern Atlantic Ocean, located south of Newfoundland in Canada. There is a brief window for this system to become a named tropical or subtropical storm today or tonight before the system moves over cooler waters. NHC indicates there is now only a 10% chance of this system becoming a named tropical storm while moving northeast over the north Atlantic Ocean. No direct impacts from this system are expected in Alabama or Florida.
