INCREASING CLOUDINESS TODAY; SHOWERS AT TIMES FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY… Mostly sunny skies this morning will become mostly cloudy by the evening hours on this Thursday ahead of our next passing weather system this weekend. Get outside and enjoy the mild weather today as high temperatures will be in the upper-60s and near the 70 degree mark in many locales by 2PM. This will be a quick-hitting burst of mild weather ahead of cold temperatures coming back for the weekend. High temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will only be in the 50s. Showers will become possible tomorrow (Friday), particularly in the evening hours.
FEW SHOWERS ON FRIDAY IN P.M. HOURS… Sprinkles and isolated showers will become possible as early as Friday afternoon, first closer to the coast and eventually spreading inland across the region throughout the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures on Friday will be in the mid- to upper-60s. Rain coverage will increase somewhat, particularly closer to the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches, on Friday night.
GREATEST RAIN CHANCES SATURDAY NEAR ALABAMA BEACHES… The area of low pressure forecast to move from west to east across the Gulf of Mexico this weekend has trended farther south, in terms of its projected path. This means that rain chances won’t be AS high as initially thought. Showers will be possible Friday night and into Saturday across the region, but the higher rain amounts will almost certainly stack up near the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches where half an inch to one inch of rainfall will be possible. Most spots farther inland will generally pick up less than one half inch of rainfall in total this weekend.
COLD TEMPS SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY… In addition to the rainfall on Saturday, I will be tracking temperatures closely this weekend. Most spots on Saturday will have highs in the 50s. Some spots farther inland may not get out of the upper-40s on Saturday afternoon. High temperatures on Sunday will be in the upper-50s. Clouds will clear out on Sunday afternoon.
WARMING TEMPS NEXT WEEK… The big weather story as we get into next week and beyond will be the warming temperatures. High temperatures will be around 70 degrees by Wednesday with mid-70s likely on Thursday, one week from today. The latest guidance from the Climate Prediction Center continues to indicate temperatures are likely to be above our climatological norms for late February.
