RAIN AT TIMES TODAY AND SATURDAY; QUITE COLD SATURDAY AND SUNDAY… Showers will become increasingly likely throughout the day on this Friday, particularly in areas closer to the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches. Rain chances will be higher the closer you go to the coast today and tomorrow. High temperatures will be in the 60s today ahead of colder temperatures on Saturday and Sunday. Highs tomorrow will only be in the mid-50s. Tomorrow, especially in the morning hours, will be quite dreary, wet, and cold. We dry out on Sunday ahead of an increasingly warmer pattern as we get into next week.
HIGHER RAIN CHANCES NEAR BEACHES THIS WEEKEND… The area of low pressure forecast to move from west to east across the Gulf of Mexico this weekend has trended farther south, in terms of its projected path. This means that rain chances won’t be AS high as initially thought. Showers will be possible Friday night and into Saturday across the region, but the higher rain amounts will almost certainly stack up near the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches where half an inch to one inch of rainfall will be possible. Most spots farther inland will generally pick up less than one half inch of rainfall in total this weekend.
CHILLY TEMPS THIS WEEKEND… In addition to the rainfall on Saturday, I will be tracking temperatures closely this weekend. Most spots on Saturday will have highs in the 50s. Some spots farther inland may not get out of the upper-40s on Saturday afternoon. High temperatures on Sunday will be in the upper-50s. Clouds will clear out on Sunday afternoon.
WARMER WEATHER COMING NEXT WEEK… The big weather story as we get into next week and beyond will be the warming temperatures. High temperatures will be around 70 degrees by Wednesday with mid-70s likely on Thursday, one week from today. The latest guidance from the Climate Prediction Center continues to indicate temperatures are likely to be above our climatological norms for late February.
